SUTA is registered in California as a non-profit organization and has chapters and members all around the world.

  2. While SUTA and SUTAA (Sharif University of Technology Alumni Association) have lot in common in terms of goals and visions, they are distinct organizations, and also have different bylaws, boards and jurisdictions. SUTAA is registered in Iran, while SUTA is registered in the USA.

  3. SUTA members and its Board believe that a biannual event is a great opportunity for members to meet in person, and to advance their common goals, while enjoying memorable days with their friends, and making new ones. Since inception, the biannual reunion has always been held in a North American or European city and has attracted many SUT affiliates.

  4. The general rule is that to become a member, the applicant should belong to either of these categories: SUT graduate, current or former student, current or former faculty member and current or former staff member. Then the person can apply online on www.suta.org, and pay the dues to become a member. REUNION 2014- MILAN
  1. There was a call to bid for the reunion, to which four responses were received. Among these four cities, Milan was chosen because of its relative accessibility to both Iran and Europe, excellent tourist attractions, a strong local team, and the fact that we prefer alternating between North America and Europe to accommodate better all potential participants.

  2. Main elements of the reunion are a few keynote speeches, a couple of art performances, a few panels and moderated discussions, the Annual General Meeting (AGM), the gala, a couple of local tours and visits, and networking events. Details of the program will be announced later.

  3. The event is open to SUTA members in good standing, and their first degree family members.

  4. The pinnacle of the reunion is the gala. It consists of several functions: important announcements, awards, dinner, art performance, DJ, etc. This part of the event is highly recommended to all participants.
  5. Check the recommended accommodations here.

  6. Yes, please refer to the www.suta2014.com webpage for more details.
REGISTRATION & RATES
  1. The spouse (or common-law partner) of a member does not need to be a member to attend the reunion, if they jointly register with the main applicant.

  2. The other first degree family members of a member (parent, child, sibling) do not need to be a member to attend the reunion, if they jointly register with the main applicant.
  3. Children of members can attend the reunion and according to their age, they may pay a fraction of the full price, as described in the chart below:

    Kids aged 2 and younger

Children of 3 to 10 years old

Children of 10 to 16 years old

     Free

25% of the main registrant's fee

50% of the main registrant's fee

  4. The primary applicant has to register for the full package (either with or without the gala), but the guests of the primary applicant have the option to register either for the whole event, or for gala only.
  5. SUTA understands that students may have limited financial resources; to make it possible for students to attend the reunion, SUTA offers reduced cost registration rates for students.
  6. To qualify for the student rate, the primary applicant needs to be full-time student in a well-known higher education institute in Iran or abroad as of spring 2014.

  7. SUTA has to pay some of the expenses up front. We lower the prices till the cut-off date, as an incentive to members to register and pay early, to allow us to collect the money soon and pay for the reunion expenses. By registering soon, you are helping your association!

  8. Special discounted tickets are another means with which we intend to encourage members with limited resources to still attend the reunion. SUTA will allocate some funds for this purpose, and based on the number of applicants, and their situation, the discount rate would be calculated.

  9. The decisions on the discounted tickets will be announced shortly after the February 28, 2014 deadline.
  10. In Iran, we have a bank account to which you can pay in IRR, and it is the same bank account that we use to collect the membership fees, at Bank Mellat, SUT Branch. It is possible though to pay to this account electronically, via PAYA payments, to avoid the need to go to the branch. Outside Iran, we use PayPal, and the payments are effectuated in USD. Details of the bank account in Iran, and PayPal information are given to you, as you progress in your registration.
CANCELLATION
  1. A 20% cancellation fee will be charged prior to the cut-off date; after that date till a month before the event, the cancellation fee would be 50%, and in the last month prior to the event, there will be no reimbursement for cancellation.

If the cancellation is due to not receiving visa for at least one of the family members who have registered together, on the condition that the visa application has been filed in complete form and within reasonable delays (i.e., prior to April 15th 2014), a full reimbursement can be requested till one week prior to the event.
