Natural Disaster Management

The increasing severity of natural disasters in the last decade has shocked the world. With this alarming change the scientific and technical communities have been working together to advance research and technology to prepare and protect our communities when the next disaster hits. The SUTA 2006 reunion will focus a portion of its lectures and panel discussions specifically on earthquakes. This series will kick off with and a presentation by Dr.Yousef Bozorgnia titled, "Earthquake as a universal problem: From the 1906 San Francisco, CA to 2003 Bam, Iran, earthquakes". The following presentation titled, "Necessary elements in earthquake risk reduction: Science, education, and profession", will be given by Dr. Mehdi Zarghamee.

Dr. Yousef Bozorgnia, Dr. Mehrdad Mehrain, Dr. Mansour Niazi, Dr. Mohsen Rahnama, and Dr. Mehdi Zarghamee have all graciously volunteered their time to take part in a short, one-hour panel discussion, “ Earthquakes as a Universal Problem: What can we do to help?” on our main stage. This panel discussion will continue as an afternoon feature for those interested, in a separate conference room.

Dr. Behrokh Khosnevis also will share with us his invention in how to build a structure in a short time, which is a great help in earthquake-ravaged communities.
