Over 70 alumni of Sharif University of technology attended the 5th biannual gathering of SUTA's Vancouver chapter at University of British Columbia on November 6th, 2011.  Speakers at this event included Dr. Fredun Hojabri, former president of SUTA and senior advisor to the board of SUT, Mr. Fariborz Ordubadi, president of Iranian Engineers of British Columbia Association (IEBCA), Mr. Iraj Akbari  of Society of Iranian Canadian Professionals of BC (SCICAP), Mr. Shahram Tafazoli, of SUTA Vancouver chapter, and Mr. Ramin Behzadi, member of SUTA board of directors.

The following candidates were introduced at the above meeting as the 5th board members of SUTA's Vancouver chapter:  Sepdieh Ashtari, Nusha Bolandzadeh, Marzieh Emami, Negar Rajabi, Saba Shoaei, Ali Ghamsari, Amir Mehdi Shokuhi, Morteza Toluee, Ramin Behzadi.

38 engineers and scientists from local research centers, universities, and industries attended the above workshop which was organized by SUTA and Alumni Association of Sharif University. The objective of this workshop was to provide entrepreneurs with knowledge and skills required to lead and manage this dynamic process. This include an in depth understanding of various stages involved in this process from concept, to screening ideas, to product development, to marketing & business plan, and to financial and legal aspects of this process.

This workshop was presented by six invited speakers including four experienced alumni of Sharif University. Topics presented  included the following:

• Basics of Inventive Thinking, Behrokh Khoshnevis,  Engineering Professor, University of Southern California

• New Product Development Process, Farrokh Malihi, Managing Director, Fargol Group

• Entrepreneurial Business Planning and Finance,  Hamid Najafi, Managing Director, Invensense International

• Technology Commercialization Strategy,  Zahed Sheikholeslami, former Director of California Polytechnic, and Dean Iranian Business School

• Royalty Audits of Technology License Agreements, Keith Johanns, Managing Director, Quids, Ltd.

• The art of patent searching: Patentability, Validity and Infringement, Parham Fatehi, Patent Analyst, US PTO

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to attend the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Seminar organized by our Chapter on Saturday 17th December. Our eminent speakers, Dr Behrokh Khoshnevis and Dr Hamid Najafi are Sharif Graduates and active SUTA members. Farrokh Malihi the SUTA  President will come to Dubai to attend the Seminar and meet our Chapter members. A gathering and dinner will be held in the evening of 17th December at Persia Restaurant, Emirates Hills, Medows  Village.

For SUTA members the indicated seminar registration fee of 300 AED will also include the dinner. The remaining will be supported by our sponsors: Mahmoud Shourideh, Nader Ghadessi, and Babak Azimi. The payment for the Seminar will be possible as indicated in the website from 9th December. For those who will attend only the gathering, the fee is 120 AED.

The language of the Seminar is English and all the interested people can participate. Please send the invitation to those who would be interested.

We are pleased to announce the 7th International reunion of Sharif University of Technology (SUTA), which will be held in the beautiful city of Ottawa, Canada during July 13-16, 2012.  This special event is organized jointly by SUTA and Shiraz University Association (SUA).  A key objective is to provide ample opportunity for involvement, and social and professional interactions/networking among participants. The overall plan for this 4-day event (Friday-Monday) includes the following programs.  Details of this program along with instructions for registration will be available shortly on SUTA website (www.suta.org), and a special website arranged by the local organizing committee in Ottawa (www.sutao.ca)

• A welcoming reception ceremony, and social event (Friday)
• Report by SUTA Board of Directors, and SUTA Chapters on activities during 2010-12
• Report by Shiraz University Alumni Association Board of Directors
• Report of the Local Organizing Committee
• Presentations by guest speakers from Sharif & Shiraz Universities on various topics of interest according to the theme of this reunion
• Organizing specific group sessions and panels to provide discussions and networking opportunities among guests with common interests on topics  relating to: education, specific industry, economic & industrial development in Iran.
• Presentation of SUTA Awards: Dr. Mojtahedi Innovation Awards, Dr. Amin Faculty Achievement Award, and Alumni Achievement Awards
