SUTA Chapters and local members in Washington DC, Toronto, California, Sweden and Australia have organized memorial evens for the victims of the plane disaster on January 8, 2020 in Tehran.

Dear Members and Friends of SUTA

We hope this update finds you in excellent health and wellbeing at the dawn of the New Year, which also coincides with the start of the third decade of SUTA.

SUTA’s 10^th Board of Directors started in June, and we have held eight board meetings since then. During these meetings we discuss strategy, new ideas, project plans, progress and issues that need to be addressed. Our primary focus is on four major programs including: Runion-2020, SUTA Chapters, SUTA Awards, and Communication Channels. Committees were organized to plan and implement various projects of these programs. Minutes of our meetings are available on SUTA website www.suta.org to all visitors.

SUTA Reunion 2020- As of now the planning phase of the Reunion-2020 has been completed and we plan to announce the details of the venue, date, and registration next month. The reunion program will include several keynote speakers, discussion panels, networking sessions, AGM and board report to membership, Awards presentation, and Gala dinner.

SUTA Chapters- Skype meetings and phone conversations were held with SUTA chapter representatives in Toronto, Seattle, Washington and California to learn about their local events and solicit their input on various SUTA programs. A summary of the recent chapter events were reported in the fall edition of SUTA Newsletter.

SUTA Awards- Awards committee has held planning meetings and discussions on SUTA awards projects including: Dr. Amin Lifetime achievement award, Dr. Mojtahedi Innovation award, Alumni achievement award, and Staff recognition award. Announcement for Dr. Mojtahedi award was sent out in October with project submissions due February 1st.

SUTA Communication Channels- Our Fall edition of the SUTA Newsletter was published in October and sent to members and SUTA friends. Social media channels/Groups on Facebook, Telegram, and WhatsApp were initiated to facilitate information sharing and networking among members and Sharif University alumni. A Linkedin SUTA Group channel which was initiated in 2016 currently includes over 2000 members and includes news from Sharif University and SUTA, and articles of interest to alumni and students. Several improvements were made on the format and content of our website in recent months. A section was added to recognize successful Sharif University alumni and showcase their achievements.

Successful implementation of the above programs requires supports and contribution from SUTA members and friends. Your active involvement and feedback allow SUTA to continue pursuing programs that are truly important to our members and to Sharif University alumni and students. هم‌دانشگاهيان گرامي از دوره دهم

با سلام و احترام،

انجمن فارغ التحصیلان دانشگاه صنعتی شریف از سال 1389 هر ساله ، جشنی به مناسبت چهلمین سالگرد فارغ التحصیلی دانش آموختگان هر دوره برپا می کند. نخستین دوره دانشجویان این دانشگاه در سال 1345 وارد دانشگاه شدند و در سال 1349 فارغ التحصیل شدند. در سال 1389 و به میزبانی دوره اولی ها پردیس دانشگاه،شاهد گردهمایی باشکوهی بود و تا سال گذشته، نه دوره از این جشنها با حضور تقریبی 1500 نفر از دانش آموختگان و خانواده ایشان در هر جشن برگزار شده است. تقويت رابطه فارغ التحصيلان دوره‌هاي مختلف با ساير فارغ التحصيلان و با انجمن فارغ التحصیلان و نیز تقويت احساس تعلق دانش آموختگان به دانشگاه از دستاوردهای برگزاری این جشن هاست. گردهمایی هایی از این دست در نهایت به حمایت از دانشگاه و آشنايي نسل جديد با نسل قديم و ايجاد شبکه هاي اجتماعي بين فارغ التحصيلان دوره هاي مختلف می انجامد. تشریح نقش دانش‌اموختگان دانشگاه در توسعه صنعتي کشور هدف دیگر برگزاری این همایش هاست. در حاشیه این رویداد کتابی حاوی مشخصات و اطلاعات دانش آموختگان هر دوره منتشر شده و دست آوردهای ایشان در توسعه صنعتی کشور و پیشبرد علم و فناوری در ایران و جهان به اطلاع جامعه دانشگاهی کشور و بویژه دانشجویان عزیز می رسد. شناسایی و برقراری ارتباط با دانش آموختگان ورودی هر سال یکی از مهمترین فعالیت های انجمن فارغ التحصیلان دانشگاه صنعتی شریف می باشد.

در دی ماه سال جاری، گردهمایی فارغ التحصیلان دانشگاه صنعتی شریف به میزبانی فارغ التحصیلان دوره دهم که در سال 1354به دانشگاه وارد شده اند، برگزار میشود. انجمن فارغ التحصیلان شریف در پی برقراری ارتباط با این عزیزان است. از فارغ التحصیلان دوره دهم دعوت می شود با روابط عمومی این انجمن با شماره های 66085860-021 و یا با آدرس ایمیل  info@alum.sharif.edu تماس گرفته و امکان مشارکت خود در جشن و دیدار با دوستان هم دوره ای خود را فراهم کنند.

Leading tech executives and entrepreneurs of Iranian descent gather in Toronto for iBridges’ 4th Conference

Toronto, July 26, 2019  -  The iBridges Toronto conference, unites tech entrepreneurs and executives of Iranian descent with tech aficionados at large to create an opportunity to showcase emerging talents, exchange ideas and best practices, and collaborate in order to succeed even better.

iBridges embraces the diversity of our global community by welcoming and supporting entrepreneurs of any background. Founded in 2014 by Iranian-American entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley who hoped to establish a network among Iranian diaspora to support the growing number of Iranian hi-tech entrepreneurs and innovators, women entrepreneurs and enthusiastic students.  Its conferences in Berkeley (2014), Berlin (2015) and Barcelona (2016) convened with over 2,500 participants.

iBridges collaborate with Tirgan, Karafarin Canada, SUTA and Kanoon Mohandes, and the one-day conference features six sessions, including three panels, two keynotes and a session on iBridges’ future ambitions.  Speakers include 3 prominent tech CEOs; Kamran Elahian (Global Catalysts Partners), Pirooz Parvarandeh (Aquantia) and Dr. Firouz Naderi (NASA Solar System Exploration), and many others. Asieh Namdar (News Anchor, CGTN America) is the Master of Ceremony. Some of prominent accelerators and investors in Canada are also invited.

Participants will hear first-hand stories of entrepreneurship and learn about global opportunities for innovation. Stories of the contributions of Iranian diaspora to the economies of North America and more will round out the programming.
